Antwerp has its fair heyday during the annual Sinksenfoor (Whitsun Fair). A loyal stallholder for decades has been Lacquemant, waffle and Dutch doughnut baker Désiré De Lille. It also has a fixed location (tearoom and take-out counter) in the centre of Antwerp. Entrepreneur Marc Stoffels is the grandson of Désiré Smidts who designed the first Lacquemant in Lille. Marc rightly turned it into an ‘Antwerp delicacy’, which is also very popular at Walloon fairs.

Working at Sinksenfoor (Whitsun Fair), Gazet van Antwerpen

[…] The name Désiré De Lille too sounds superb in Antwerp. The fair family, known for their food stalls, also have a tearoom in Antwerp. That fair life should not necessarily be in one’s blood proves co-worker Tamara Tomic. An ‘outsider’ of sorts, she came to like the business when she started working in the tearoom. Now she has a stall of her own at the fair. […] “We don’t consider each other competitors; we are one big family. We help each other whenever and wherever we can”.
